Taiwan collects 5 medals at Asian Para Games

Taiwan athletes picked up three medals in 10-pin bowling and one each in swimming and track and field events Dec. 15 at the 2010 Asian Para Games being held in Guangzhou, mainland China.

Yang Meng-chang grabbed Taiwan’s second bowling gold at the games with a score of 1,282 in the men’s B9 competition, while Huang Jen-jung took home silver in the B8 event, and Lee Chia-chieh won a bronze in the women’s competition.

In athletics, sprinter Liu Ya-ting clocked a time of 14.37 seconds in the final race of the women’s T13 100-meter event to grab bronze.

Meanwhile, swimmer Luo Hsiao-hung, a gold medalist at the previous games, took home a bronze medal in the women’s SM6 200-meter individual medley competition.

In the men’s wheelchair basketball preliminary round, the undefeated Taiwan squad beat Iraq 60-45 thanks to a fourth-quarter surge, adding another victory after trampling Kuwait 61-38 in their opener the previous day. (SB)
